At least three suicides have occurred at the casino parking structure
Bally’s Evansville was the scene of a tragic incident this week, according to local law enforcement. A man jumped to his death from the casino’s parking garage, marking the third similar occurrence at this location.

Officers from the Evansville Police Department received multiple 911 calls just before the tragic event. Upon arriving, Sgt. Anthony Aussieker confirmed that the deceased man was found on the sidewalk next to the 1,660-spot parking structure.
According to Sgt. Aussieker, everything they’ve observed suggests it was a suicide. Limited information is available due to the sensitive nature of the case, and the identity of the man has not been disclosed. Authorities will collaborate with Bally’s Corporation to understand what led to this unfortunate event, which includes reviewing the surveillance footage to piece together a timeline.
Bally’s Evansville boasts a 338-room hotel, various dining options, and over 30,500 square feet of customizable indoor and outdoor event spaces. The casino, transformed from a riverboat to a land-based establishment in 2017 after a change in Indiana’s gaming laws, currently offers 900 slot machines, 28 live dealer and electronic table games, as well as a Bally Bet Sportsbook.
Another Parking Garage Suicide
The car park at Bally’s Evansville has now recorded at least three suicides in its history:
- First Incident (2010): The location was known as Casino Aztar under Aztar Corporation, where a 19-year-old leapt to his death.
- Second Incident (2012): Another 19-year-old committed suicide from the same parking garage.
- Recent Event: Last December, police responded to another incident involving a vehicle being driven off the seventh floor of the parking structure, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries for the driver.
Evansville Casino History
Casino Aztar transformed into Tropicana Evansville in 2013 after being acquired by Tropicana Entertainment. In 2021, Bally’s Corporation purchased the management rights from Caesars Entertainment for $140 million, while the physical property was sold for $340 million to the Gaming and Leisure Properties real estate trust.
To meet state regulations following the merger between Caesars and Eldorado Resorts, the former was required to divest two casinos, leading to the sale of Tropicana Evansville. In the 2024 fiscal year, Bally’s Evansville generated a gross gaming revenue of $173.5 million, ranking seventh out of 13 casinos in the Hoosier State.
As public interest and debates surrounding mental health and gambling susceptibility grow, this tragic incident serves as an important reminder of the dark side of gambling. Community support for mental health initiatives is critical in preventing future tragedies.
In summary, the recent suicide at Bally’s Evansville shines a spotlight on ongoing issues related to mental health and gambling. As investigations unfold, it is essential to foster open discussions about mental health resources available to gamblers and their families. Promoting preventive measures and community outreach can help address the broader implications of gambling addiction in society.
